How is a diamond valued?
Diamond quotes are made based on 4 evaluation criteria defined in English as Cut (Size) – Carat (weight) – Clarity (purity) – Color (Color) .
Grading the quality of a diamond is not a simple operation . The differences between grades are very small, sometimes very difficult to specify, and international standards in many cases are not unified, which sometimes causes small differences in criteria or interpretation that translate into unequal evaluations.
That is why it is very important that you leave the appraisal and purchase of your diamonds in the hands of experts . 4Dreams puts at your disposal appraisers qualified by the IGE (Spanish gemological institute), with extensive experience in buying and selling in the national and international market, so that you can obtain an expert, transparent and professional valuation of them.
Appraisal Process
It is advisable to previously have a gemological certificate that certifies the physical characteristics of the diamond, as it would speed up the appraisal process. If you do not have the certificate, there is no problem, since in our centers we have the necessary instruments to carry out a diamond gemological report .
The appraisal of the diamond will always be carried out at the wholesale price , that is, the intermediate value between the store price and the liquidation price , the value of the raw materials, metals and gems before their manufacture. Therefore, the higher value is equal to the manufacturing cost, the standard cost of the finished part, which includes the price of raw materials, production costs, and the manufacturer’s markup .
The calculation of the value of the components is carried out in accordance with the regulations of the State Tax Administration Agency . The value of the gem is established according to the monthly tables published by specialized media, and the weight of the mounted gem is approximate and calculated based on the measurements that the appraiser can make.
In the case of a mounted diamond, the metal of the jewel will also be valued, according to the daily metal market price published by the Spanish Society of Precious Metals. The various costs derived from the manufacturing process are established according to the tables published by the Tax Agency.
